In this interview, Tanja shares her best tips for keeping hair healthy and strong during the winter months, her thoughts on beauty, and the hair trends we can expect to see this season.
What does beauty mean to you?
Beauty is what we bring into the world when we feel strong, authentic, and happy. I also believe that beauty has something to do with self-care – pampering your soul, skin, hair, and nails. There is nothing more beautiful to me than seeing a person radiate the most wonderful energy.
Winter can be tough on hair. What’s your best advice for protecting hair from the cold and keeping it healthy and strong?
My best advice is to use a high-quality hairdryer and styling iron. Always use conditioner after shampoo to restore the hair’s natural pH balance and keep it soft and smooth. A moisturizing hair mask and a leave-in product will also help to protect the hair and maintain hydration.
Do you see any particular hair trends for the winter?
Yes! I see a big trend towards bangs again – not the so-called curtain bangs, but real, classic bangs. I think bangs can truly transform a person’s look, but in most cases, they require a bit more styling.
What does your own hair care routine look like?
I am really dedicated to my hair care, and my routine is both simple and effective. I care a lot about the products I use on both my hair and skin. I have always struggled with problematic skin and scalp, so I have tried countless products. When I find something that works, I stick with it for years. My hair and scalp love Meishai, so that’s what I use. It is gentle on the scalp and provides plenty of moisture without weighing my hair down.
After washing my hair – where I always shampoo twice – I use conditioner. Additionally, I use a serum that I absolutely love. It provides moisture, doesn’t weigh the hair down, makes it smooth, and can be used for both straight and curly hair, wet or dry. It also has heat protection and a mild, exclusive fragrance.
If you had to share your best tip for healthy hair, what would it be?
My best advice is to invest in the best brands of hairdryers and styling irons. They might be a bit more expensive, but there is a huge difference in quality. Buy your hair products from a professional hairdresser who can guide you on what suits your hair type best. If you color your hair, make sure to have it done by a stylist who takes the time to do a thorough job. Unfortunately, there are many hairdressers who focus more on getting as many clients as possible through the door rather than giving the hair the right treatment.
What is your favorite Meishai product?
My absolute favorite is Meishai’s shampoo. It is the ultimate lifesaver when my hair feels dry and lifeless. It penetrates deep into the hair, leaving it super soft, shiny, and well-nourished. I love that it provides so much moisture without making the hair heavy or greasy – it truly feels like a luxurious treatment.
Who or what is your biggest inspiration when it comes to beauty and hair?
I am very inspired by my clients, who bring their own references, and together, we find the perfect look. I have studied people all my life, and my goal is not to change them but to enhance their best features. I draw inspiration from my courses in London a couple of times a year, from street fashion, social media, magazines, and my passionate colleagues in the hairdressing industry.
If you could give your younger self one piece of advice about hair care or beauty in general, what would it be?
I spent many years trying to change my hair type and following trends that may not have suited me. Beauty is not about keeping up with the latest fashion photos or perfect images on social media – it’s about finding what works for you. Use high-quality hair products, don’t be afraid to try new things, but be patient with the process. Your own natural beauty is something to highlight, not fight against.
