In this exclusive interview, Naja shares her take on beauty, what hairstyles we will see for spring/summer, and the inspirations behind her signature style.
1. What does beauty mean to you?
Beauty means a lot to me since it’s also a big part of my job. I love bringing out the best in every person who sits in my chair.
But beauty, to me, is also a feeling of well-being.
2. Spring and summer is on its way – how can we prepare our hair for the season change?
Hopefully, we are soon heading into brighter days, and I think that calls for healthy ends. If you color your hair, I recommend getting a refresh, as it will bring out the best in your skin tone. After a winter period with cold weather, coats, and scarves that put a lot of strain on the hair, I always recommend giving your hair some extra love with a hair mask, followed by serum and oil to combat dry ends. This actually applies in the summer as well, with sun and saltwater – this way, your hair becomes more resilient against the elements.
3. Do you see any particular hair trends for spring/summer?
I actually see two somewhat opposite trends this spring and summer:
- Embracing what you have – letting your natural texture and hair color guide the direction of any color treatments.
- On the other hand, I also see a comeback of ‘90s Hollywood hair with big curlers and "over-dyed" hair – the bigger, the better! I just love that there’s room for both.
4. What does your own hair care routine look like?
Like everyone else with a busy schedule, my hair care routine needs to be practical and manageable.
I wash my hair 1-2 times a week, always in the evening so it can dry naturally. I lather it twice with shampoo to remove all dirt and buildup, and I always finish with conditioner to seal the hair cuticles. In my towel-dried hair, I apply my overnight serum and finish with oil. This gives me the softest hair, making it easier to manage and style.
5. If you could share your best tip for healthy and shiny hair, what would it be?
My best tip for healthy and shiny hair is proper care! Always remember to finish with conditioner, and if you have time, use a hair mask as well. Conditioner is the most important step, as it seals the hair cuticles.
Try to avoid excessive heat styling, especially blow-drying. If you must use heat, always apply a heat protection.
6. What is your favourite Meishai product – and why?
My absolute favourite Meishai product is the conditioner! It makes even my coarse, thick Asian hair soft and easy to detangle – something I’ve never experienced with allergy-friendly products before.
7. Who or what is your biggest inspiration when it comes to beauty and hair?
My biggest inspiration in beauty and hair has always been the East, especially Korea, where I’m from. They have often been first movers when it comes to almost everything in beauty. I find it so inspiring to see how their trends and beauty knowledge have now spread across the world.
Just 10 years ago, things like snail slime in skincare, K-pop, and charms for shoes and bags were laughed at here in the Nordics – and now we see and hear about them everywhere! I’m inspired by those who stick to what they believe in and don’t wait for it to become a trend.
